چکیده

Moberly, Betty J. (The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor), F. Shafa, and Philipp Gerhardt. Structural details of anthrax spores during stages of transformation into vegetative cells. J. Bacteriol. 92:220-228. 1966.-Anthrax spores in stages of dormancy, activation, germination, and outgrowth into vegetative cells were examined in an electron microscope. The fine structure proved to be much like that observed in related species of Bacillus, except for a visible alteration after heat activation and clusters of vesicle-like bodies in the cytoplasm of vegetative cells.

Isolation of Anthrax Spores from Soil in Endemic Regions of Isfahan, Iran

To isolate and detect anthrax spores from soil in different regions of Isfahan, Iran a total of 60 environmental specimens were collected during 2003. Bacterial endospores were extracted via flotation in distilled water and were cultured on blood agar and selective PLET media. Bacillus anthracis was identified using bacteriological and biological tests. Viable Bacillus anthracis spores were iso...

Synthetic Oligosaccharide Bacterial Antigens to Produce Monoclonal Antibodies for Diagnosis and Treatment of Disease Using Bacillus anthracis as a Case Study

Bacillus anthracis is a Gram-positive, spore-forming soil bacterium that is closely related to Bacillus cereus and Bacillus thuringiensis. Infections with Bacillus anthracis result in a disease called anthrax (Mock and Fouet 2001; Sylvestre et al. 2002). Anthrax is primarily an infection of grazing cattle. Ingested spores germinate within the host to the vegetative form. Vegetative cells multip...

Characteristics of spore germination in a mouse model of cutaneous anthrax.

BACKGROUND Cutaneous infection is the most common form of human anthrax, but little is known about Bacillus anthracis spore germination in these infections. METHODS We used experimental inoculations of B. anthracis Sterne spores or vegetative bacilli onto intact or abraded mouse flank skin, followed by evaluation of the infections and enumeration of germinating spores and vegetative bacilli. ...

Detection of B. anthracis Spores and Vegetative Cells with the Same Monoclonal Antibodies

Bacillus anthracis, the causative agent of anthrax disease, could be used as a biothreat reagent. It is vital to develop a rapid, convenient method to detect B. anthracis. In the current study, three high affinity and specificity monoclonal antibodies (mAbs, designated 8G3, 10C6 and 12F6) have been obtained using fully washed B. anthracis spores as an immunogen. These mAbs, confirmed to direct ...

Changes in terminal respiratory pathways of Bacillus subtilis during germination, outgrowth and vegetative growth.

The chemical and enzymatic properties of the cytochrome system in the particulate preparations obtained from dormant spores, germinated spores, young vegetative cells, and vegetative cells of Bacillus subtilis PCI219 were investigated. Difference spectra of particulate fractions from dormant spores of this strain suggested the presence of cytochromes a, a(3), b, c(+c(1)), and o. All of the cyto...
